Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Felix Denegri and his Ecuadorian counterpart, Alejandro Davalos, reaffirmed the deep historical, cultural, and human ties that unite both countries, as well as the strength of a bilateral relationship founded on friendship, mutual trust, cooperation, and integration.

These remarks were made during a meeting held Wednesday in Lima, where they highlighted the two nations' shared commitment to a determined fight against transnational organized crime.

In a joint statement, the deputy ministers indicated that Peru-Ecuador relations constitute a regional benchmark for political dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, underpinned by the commitments assumed under the 1998 Brasilia Peace Accords.

The officials said the historic agreement helped consolidate a period of lasting peace, integration, and joint development for the benefit of both nations.

Likewise, they highlighted the importance of the Presidential Meeting and Binational Cabinet, as well as the Peru-Ecuador Neighborhood Commission, which are regarded as the principal mechanisms for political direction and the coordination of bilateral relations.

According to the deputy ministers, these mechanisms have helped consolidate a broad and dynamic agenda aimed at delivering tangible results across various areas of cooperation.

Moreover, the diplomats expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in implementing the commitments agreed upon during the meeting held in Quito last year.

Among the main issues addressed were security and defense; trade, investment, and tourism; border affairs, infrastructure, and connectivity; environmental and mining matters; social and cultural issues; as well as the promotion of economic complementarity and border integration.

Furthermore, they highlighted joint efforts to combat transnational organized crime and related illicit activities.

In that context, they underscored the adoption of the Santiago Regional Commitment against Transnational Organized Crime, approved in Santiago on May 28, 2026.

The diplomatic representatives also welcomed the upcoming Presidential Meeting and 17th Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet, scheduled to be held in Lima during the second half of 2026.

The deputy ministers said the meeting reaffirms both countries' commitment to further strengthening bilateral dialogue, border integration, and cooperation for the benefit of their populations.

Finally, the officials agreed on the need to continue advancing the pending items on the bilateral agenda through close and ongoing coordination between the competent institutions of both countries.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral dialogue to address common challenges, convinced that peace, cooperation, and integration are fundamental pillars of shared development and prosperity.
