Peru: Banks' net profit exceeds US$1.2 billion in 1H 2018

15:30 | Lima, Jul. 25.

Net profit of 16 private-run banks based in Peru amounted to S/4.04 billion (about US$1.233 billion) in the first half of 2018, the Superintendence of Banking, Insurance, and Private Pension Fund Administrators (SBS) informed.

Thus, banks' net profit increased 15.6% —in nominal terms— between January and June 2018 from the similar term last year (S/3.495 billion: about US$1.067 billion)

It must be noted said figures recorded in both periods included profits of two financial entities’ foreign branches: Banco de Credito (BCP) and Interbank.

Peru's private banking system is composed of Banco Continental (BBVA), Banco de Comercio, Banco de Credito (BCP), Banco Financiero, Banco Interamericano de Finanzas (BIF), Scotiabank, Citibank, Interbank, Mibanco, and Banco GNB.

Other institutions are Banco Falabella, Banco Santander, Banco Ripley, Banco Azteca, Banco Cencosud, and ICBC Peru Bank.

According to financial statements, greater profits from the valuation of investments, as well as from subsidiaries' investments contributed to the banking system's profit in the first half of 2018.

Added to this is the profit earned from portfolio sales and financial services, the SBS pointed out.
