The body of pilot Americo Salazar Cuellar,
one of the 13 victims of the tragic air crash that occurred on Saturday, August 1, in Pueblo Viejo, Nasca province, Ica region, was handed over to his family on Tuesday morning for Christian burial.
Marco Cueto, head of the Legal Medicine Division in Ica, said the body of the pilot was released after his identity had been confirmed with 100% certainty.
The process was completed through dental and anthropological examinations, as well as the analysis of associated evidence, such as the clothing he was wearing at the time of the crash.
Regarding the identification of co-pilot Irenka del Carpio Guanilo, the official said authorities would await the DNA test results to confirm her identity.
He added that associated evidence continues to arrive, which will make it possible to confirm her identity with complete certainty.
"In Irenka del Carpio's case, we will await the DNA test results. However, associated evidence continues to arrive that will allow us to confirm her identity with complete certainty," Cueto said.
Regarding the identification of the 11 European tourists, he explained that authorities will await the results of the DNA tests sent to the laboratory at the Ayacucho Forensic Medicine Unit for comparison with samples from their relatives.
He added that more bodies could be released to their families later in the day, once the identities of the deceased have been confirmed with absolute certainty.
