Peru: Arequipa's peasant communities participate in parade

18:41 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jul. 2.

Several peasant communities took part in a colorful parade last Sunday on Industrial Avenue in Arequipa's Paucarpata district as part of the activities to celebrate National Farmer's Day.

In this sense, the event saw the participation of residents from six provinces of this southern region.

The parade was organized —for the second year in a row— by Arequipa Regional Government's Development and Social Inclusion Management's Peasant Communities and Indigenous Peoples Division.

It was carried out in coordination with the National Federation of Women Peasant Farmers, Artisans, Indigenous, Native, and Salaried of Peru (Fenmucarinap).

The act was presided over by Arequipa Governor Yamila Osorio, who highlighted the daily efforts undertaken by farmers.

"During my administration, we have created the Division of Peasant Communities, which since 2015 has allowed us to improve farmers' organization, skills, and productivity," Osorio pointed out.

"We have held the 2nd Regional Parade, thus making visible their customs and their importance for our region," she concluded.
