Peru: Arequipa anniversary activities kick off

16:59 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 1.

The White City's 478th-anniversary activities started in Peru's southern metropolis of Arequipa on Wednesday.

The festivities began with a civic-military and flag parade at Main Square.

Region Governor Yamila Osorio, and Province Mayor Lilia Pauca, among other officials, participated in the celebrations.

Although Arequipa's anniversary falls on August 15th, it has become customary for festivities to start on the first day of August and last throughout the month.

The ceremony opened with the patriotic symbols-raising event. Subsequently, a flag parade took place around the Main Square.

Afterward, delegations from the Armed Forces, universities, higher institutes, and educational institutions took part in the civic-military parade led by local authorities.

Music was also present on the occasion. Thus, Arequipa's carnival and traditional dances brightened up the very first day of anniversary month.
