Peru and U.S. strengthen partnership to address regional security challenges

During the 17th Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CMDA), Peruvian Defense Minister Amadeo Flores held a bilateral meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Americas Security Affairs Joseph Humire in a bid to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries.

During the talks, the Peruvian and U.S. delegations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defense and security cooperation and interoperability mechanisms aimed at jointly addressing the new challenges facing the region.

The gathering underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in technology transfer, strengthening the defense industrial base, and regional coordination in order to bolster joint capabilities against emerging threats affecting hemispheric stability and security.

Also representing Peru were Deputy Defense Policy Minister Walter Chavez; Joint Command of the Armed Forces Chief, Army General Cesar Briceño; and Peruvian Air Force General Commander, Air General Mario Contreras.

The bilateral meeting took place on the opening day of the 17th CMDA, an international event bringing together 30 delegations from countries across the continent in the city of Cusco.
