Two new appeals have been filed by
Alejandro Toledo to review the ruling by U.S. judge Thomas S. Hixson, who ordered the former Peruvian President to surrender to the Marshal on April 7, 2023.
The presentation of said documents would imply a response by U.S. authorities.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California warranted that Toledo shall be committed to a proper jail, there to remain until his surrender to Peruvian authorities shall be made.
Moreover, the Court revoked the ex-President's bail and remanded him to the custody of the U.S Marshal.
Thus, Toledo shall surrender to the Marshal on April 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at 450 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, California.
The filing of these appeals by Toledo could prevent him from meeting the deadline for his surrender, since they will have to be resolved first.
Alejandro Toledo —who resides in the U.S.— is being investigated by the Peruvian justice for having allegedly received a bribe worth nearly US$32 million from the Brazilian Odebrecht company to favor it in the bidding for the Interoceanic Highway, while he was President of the Republic (2001-2006).
