18:00 | Lima, Dec. 16.

Peruvian agricultural exports may reach US$7.500 billion in 2019 if the current upward trend remains in place, after such exports totaled US$5.787 billion between January and October, the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) has reported.

According to Minagri's Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate General (DGSEP) —within the agro-export basket— the sale of fruits and vegetables abroad stood out.

Likewise, the figure registered in the 10 months of 2019 increased 4.8% over the same period last year.

Within this framework, the main products that stood out were fresh or dried avocados, fresh blueberries, unroasted coffee, fresh grapes, fresh asparagus, and fresh mangoes.

Preparations for animal feed, fresh "Cavendish Valery" bananas, cacao beans (raw, whole, or broken), and other citrus may account for 56% of total agro-exports.

In the first ten months of this year, the largest placements of fresh or dried avocados were highlighted, which reached US$737 million (+ 2%), followed by fresh blueberries (US$560 million; + 43%), and fresh grapes (US$444 million; + 19%).

Also, fresh asparagus (US$306 million; +6%), citrus fruits (US$126 million; + 10%), and cacao beans (US$120 million; + 6%), among others showed good performances.

Destination markets

On the other hand, the main target markets for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, England, Ecuador, China, Germany, Colombia, Chile, and Canada.

Finally, Minagri reiterated that the sector's goal by 2021 is to reach US$10.000 billion in agro-exports to the world's markets.
