Peru: Agro-exports up 9% in Jan-Sep 2019

15:31 | Lima, Nov. 4.

Peru's agro-exports (traditional and non-traditional) reached US$4.758 billion between January and September this year, a 9% expansion over the same period in 2018, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) has affirmed.

Within this framework, the exports guild stressed that the registered amount is the "record high" for that term.

In similar periods, the following numbers had been recorded: US$2.766 billion (2013), US$3.521 billion (2016), US$3.846 billion (2017), and US$4.366 billion (2018).

Nevertheless, concerning the expansion rate, ADEX noted this is not the highest one, if the January-September terms of previous years are taken into consideration such as: 2010 (30%), 2011 (44%), 2014 (24%), and 2018 (14%).

In this sense, ADEX Agro-exports Department Manager Susana Yturry said it is essential to invigorate collaboration with the public sector in order to enhance competitiveness, as well as to diversify the products and market supply.

She also underlined that the private sector —through Adex— will carry out a series of activities to continue training the members of that chain on health, safety, as well as on identification of markets and trends.
