Peru acted responsibly when demanding visas to Venezuelans

18:57 | Lima, Jun. 12.

Prime Minister Salvador del Solar on Wednesday affirmed the Peruvian Government acted responsibly and respectfully towards Venezuela when asking the Bolivarian nation's citizens to have passports and humanitarian visas in order to enter Peru.

In this sense, the high-ranking official ruled out any kind of arbitrary measure against Venezuelan migration.

Likewise, he recalled Peru opened its doors to the Venezuelans who decided to escape from their country's economic and social crisis, adding it has welcomed over 700,000 people.

"Nobody can say that Peru has not adequately received our Venezuelan brothers and sisters (…)," he expressed.

Furthermore, Del Solar indicated this is a sensitive subject and that it respects the Venezuelans who are going through hardships.

"We will always be a country supportive and worried about our brothers and sisters, but also about the impact that this could cause," the Prime Minister stated.

Remarks were made during a press conference held following a Council of Ministers' session.
