Over 510,000 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines land in Peru

A new batch of 511,200 vaccine doses against COVID-19 from the AstraZeneca laboratory arrived in Peru on Saturday afternoon.

This delivery comes as part of the agreement signed by the Republic of Peru and the COVAX Facility mechanism.

Health Minister Oscar Ugarte supervised the arrival of this cargo at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport.

The doses will allow the vaccination of older adults and citizens suffering from prioritized comorbidities

to continue in various regions of the country.

This is the second delivery —after last April 18 when Peru received a batch of 276,000 doses from the aforementioned pharmaceutical company, also through this international mechanism.

Next week,

other 500,000 will arrive from Pfizer —as part of the direct contract with this pharmaceutical company— in addition to 1,000,000 from the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm.

As of May 29 at 06:00 p.m. (local time), 1,137,005 people have already received both COVID-19 vaccine doses in Peru, while a total of 3,785,676 doses have been administered to date.
