Over 2.3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Peru

The number of vaccines against COVID-19 administered in Peru amounts to 2,368,317 to date. Within this framework, more than 1,600,000 people received the first dose, whereas 746,000 were inoculated with the second dose.

This was reported by Education Minister Ricardo Cuenca during a press conference held along with Defense Minister Nuria Esparch to address the measures adopted by the Transition and Emergency Government in the face of the pandemic.

"We know that the vaccine is life; therefore, let's all lend our shoulders," the high-ranking official said, emphasizing that the immunization process does not stop in the South American country.

Vaccines in Lima and Callao

This week, more than 200,000 doses will be administered in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao to make progress on the vaccination process under a territorial approach, by age groups and comorbidities.

Furthermore, the Cabinet member stated that in 10 days —as recently announced by the Ministry of Health (Minsa)— immunization could start for people over 60 years of age, after completing the immunization of people aged above 70, as well as of citizens with Down syndrome and kidney failure.

Cuenca also reported that more 1,000,000 doses have been administered in the regions, thus benefitting health personnel, as well as members of the Police, Armed Forces, firefighters, and prioritized older adults.

In the regions, progress was made with the administration of vaccines from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and AstraZeneca in accordance with the cold chains available in each jurisdiction, he added.
