As part of the
special flights announced by the Government of Peru, nearly 250 young fellow citizens arrived Tuesday afternoon at Air Group No. 8 —a military base in Callao— in an aircraft from the U.S. city of Miami.
The youth, who arrived on a flight operated by Avianca, had been working in various cities across the United States as part of
a summer work and travel program, which allows them to share their culture and ideas with people of the United States through temporary work and travel opportunities.
This
repatriation was possible thanks to the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, and the National Institute of Civil Defense.
Their return to Peru comes amid the national emergency decreed by the Government in order to control the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Upon arrival, they were placed under quarantine at two hotels in the capital city so as to make sure they are not infected with the virus.
