At the closing ceremony of the Perumin 36 Mining Convention on Friday, Energy and Mines Minister Oscar Vera highlighted the interest shown by mining entrepreneurs to continue investing in Peru.

"Mining contributes significantly to the country. I have been able to talk with entrepreneurs in the mining value chain, and I am motivated by the interest they show in continuing to work in our country," he stated.

"They have gathered information about the great opportunities that our Peruvian territory offers and the great possibilities they have to continue developing their companies," he added.

Oscar Vera also participated at the panel discussion called "Promoting financial inclusion for small-scale and artisanal mining - Advances and Challenges," along with other experts on the matter.

At the event, he stressed the importance of small-scale and artisanal mining in the development and growth of the country due to its capacity to generate employment and well-being for many Peruvian families in the most remote areas.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mines is promoting some initiatives with the aim of encouraging banking and financial inclusion of small-scale and artisanal mining by facilitating the opening of bank accounts at Banco de la Nacion agencies," the minister indicated.

"We will also assess the creation of a guarantee fund to encourage and support the financial system in the face of small-scale and artisanal mining," he added.

It should be noted that the panel discussion stressed the importance of the access to banking services by small-scale and artisanal miners in order to deal with illegality.
