Meet Dina Boluarte, the new President of Peru

Dina Boluarte Zegarra assumed the Presidency of the Republic on Wednesday afternoon after Parliament approved an impeachment motion against Pedro Castillo.

Below is the profile of the new Head of State.

Mrs. Boluarte was born in Chalhuanca (Apurimac region) on May 31, 1962.

She is a lawyer, who holds a Master's Degree in Notarial and Registry Law from San Martin de Porres University and has more than 18 years of experience in the profession. 

Moreover, the ex-vice president holds specialization diplomas in Administrative Law and Public Management, Constitutional Law, Constitutional Procedural Law, and Human Rights. Besides, she is an extrajudicial mediator.


The newly sworn-in President served as legal advisor to senior management and head of the Registry Office at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

The top dignitary was a director of welfare at the Lima Bar Association where, under her leadership, several changes were made for the benefit of lawyers.

Similarly, Mrs. Boluarte led the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), where she stressed her commitment to the poorest and vulnerable people and expressed her willingness to always work with the people.

She is the first woman to become President of the Republic of Peru.
