Lima 2019: Pan American Torch lights up Colca Valley

17:29 | Caylloma (Arequipa region), Jul. 8.

The Pan American Torch arrived on Monday morning at Colca Valley, and the cauldron was symbolically lit at the Condor's Cross Viewpoint.

Athletes Glenny Mamani and Carlos Choquecondo were in charge of lighting up the torch, which made its way through various areas of the valley.

Caylloma Province Mayor Alvaro Caceres welcomed the delegation that transported the symbol —by helicopter— from the region's main city of Arequipa.

National and foreign tourists participated in the symbolic ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which will begin on July 26.

Students and locals also attended the event.

It must be noted Colca Valley —Arequipa region's most important attraction— receives over 800 tourists per day.
