The Government of Peru has invited the high-Level mission of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to visit the country in January 2023 so that it can complete its work to address the social and political crisis with the full collaboration of Peruvian authorities.

Via Twitter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the invitation to the IACHR working group has been formalized after a technical visit to the country between December 20 and 22.

"The high-level mission of the IACHR will visit Peru in January. The date is yet to be determined by both parties," the government agency said in a second tweet.

The high-level mission of the aforementioned international organization arrived in Peru after the social crisis that broke out weeks ago following the removal of Pedro Castillo and the assumption of Dina Boluarte as President of the Republic by constitutional succession.

According to data from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the protests and demonstrations have left 26 people dead in Peru.

The IACHR delegation has also visited Castillo at the Barbadillo prison, in Lima's Ate district, where it verified that the prison conditions are in line with those set forth in the Criminal Enforcement Code.
