Fourth coronavirus patient dies in Peru

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Friday announced one new death from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of deaths to four in Peru.

"The Ministry of Health regrets to report the sensitive death of a person due to COVID-19 infection," it said in an official statement.

The victim is a 75-year-old woman, whose travel history indicates she had been to Spain.

She entered the Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital's ICU on March 19, following severe respiratory failure and pneumonia. 

The patient had an unfavorable evolution, which led to a heart attack. She died today at 9:17 a.m.

"On behalf of all Peruvians, we express our heartfelt condolences to the relatives (of the deceased person) at this moment of pain," it concluded.


As is known, a 78-year-old man was the first death confirmed on March 19. He had a history of high blood pressure and entered ICU on March 17, following severe respiratory failure.
