Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi on Wednesday affirmed that his country will offer full support to Peru when the latter holds the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum presidency in 2024.

"I affirmed (to Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and to Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi) the full willingness of my country to support Peru, which will preside over APEC next year," the guest said during a joint statement along with his Peruvian peer at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

The Japanese Foreign minister expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and warm hospitality by the Peruvian Government during his visit on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries.

"I told President Boluarte and Foreign Affairs Minister Gervasi that I highly appreciate (the fact) that Peru promotes a diplomatic policy focused on international coordination, as well as a free and open economic policy, including the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership)," he indicated.

Among other topics, Hayashi underscored Peru as an important economic partner. He was also optimistic that both countries collaborate on international agenda topics.

"We agree to work closely together to respond to the current difficult international relations, including Ukraine, and strengthen the duties of the United Nations, and also the reform of the Security Council," he said.

Lastly, he expressed Japan's commitment to continue cooperating with Peru to promote its sustainable development through assistance following the damage caused by torrential rains, which have been registered since last January, as well as the Japanese aid provided to Venezuelan refugees in Peru.
