Former Congressman and Ex-Minister Antero Flores-Araoz on Wednesday confirmed that he has accepted President Merino's invitation to assume the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

"I have accepted the President's invitation," he said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station, noting that the swearing-in ceremony will take place today at 12:30 p.m. (local time).

Moreover, he urged calm, remarking his attempt to guarantee an orderly transfer of power after the general elections scheduled for April 11 next year.

"It is absolutely clear that this is a transitional Government. We have to improve the situation we have received in order to hand over a country whose order is re-established," Flores-Araoz underlined.

Likewise, the ex-minister affirmed that he will call on Congress to work together for the sake of the nation, taking into account the economic and health crisis it is facing.

"This is not the best time to experiment," said Flores-Araoz, who claimed to have in mind the names of the future Cabinet members.

In statements to the Regional Communication Network (RCR), he expressed his intention to convene a unity Cabinet consisting of committed people of great patriotism who are willing to pull the country out of this difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
