Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva on Thursday predicted that
economic recovery in Peru would begin in the third quarter of the year, following the resumption of some economic activities starting May 4.
"We expect the economic recovery will begin in the third and fourth quarter of the year," she said during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.
"It is critical for the economy to renew itself —in a controlled fashion— following a series of health protocols and standards," she expressed.
In this respect, the minister affirmed that the Government is putting emphasis on recovering the country's potential growth in the medium term.
Concerning the negative economic forecasts made by some international institutions for the country's growth in 2020, Alva explained they were prepared in a context of uncertainty.
Thursday marks the thirty-ninth day of mandatory social isolation.
