FA Min: Int'l community says Peru's Government acted lawfully

Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra said that the international community believes the Government of Martin Vizcarra acted in accordance with the Constitution.

"What we see is that the international community welcomes the idea that actions have been taken strictly in accordance with the Constitution and rules of Peru," he said Sunday in remarks to Cuarto Poder TV show.

"We can see they agree that actions have been taken within the law," he pointed out.

Meza-Cuadra stated that he has been in contact with all his counterparts in the region as well as with international organizations and, "after days of confusion, the scene is clearing up, and the perception is that everything was done in accordance with the Constitution."

Observation missions

At another moment, the minister commented that the presence of international observers at the parliamentary elections in January 2020 would be coordinated in the upcoming weeks.

In this sense, he explained, the plan to meet with the United Nations, the Organization of American States (OAS), and the European Union to address such topic.
