on Thursday reported that a total of 768,416 international tourists entered Peru during the first quarter of 2024, a 62.4% increase over the same period of the previous year.
This figure represented an additional flow of 295,000 tourists compared to the same period in 2023.
According to information provided by the
National Superintendence of Migrations, the main issuing markets for international tourists to
Peru were: Chile (218,307; +61.7%), the United States (124,478; +39.6%), Ecuador (63,923; +30.6%), Bolivia (45,701; +302.4%), Colombia (37,287; +30.8%), and Brazil (34,544; +130.9%).
"These are important figures that exceed initial estimates. Due to this positive trend, there are many markets that will soon reach pre-pandemic levels, such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Spain, among others," the Mincetur head said.
Regional blocs
Sorted by regional blocs, South America was the source of 56.4% of international tourists who arrived in Peru (433,000).
It was followed by North America, 21.1% (162,000); Europe, 15.2% (117,000); Asia, 4.2%; and Central America, 2.2%.
Meanwhile, the most dynamic markets in this period were mainly Asian, such as Singapore (+280%), Malaysia (259.4%), Taiwan (+302.2%), Japan (244.8%), Thailand (188%), and China (213.3%).
Regarding the entry of international tourists through immigration control posts, the Jorge Chavez International Airport (AIJCH) stands out with a total of 446,000 tourists (share of 58%); the Santa Rosa Border Control Post in Tacna, which reported the entry of 177,000 (23.0%).
The Binational Border Service Center (CEBAF) in Tumbes registered the entry of 54,000 tourists (7.0%) and the Binational Border Service Center (CEBAF) in Puno, with 42,000 tourists (5.4%).
