Development Research Center of China's State Council visits Peru

00:00 | Lima, May. 24.

A delegation from the Development Research Center of China's State Council (DRC) —led by its President Li Wei— paid a working visit to Peru on May 22-23.

The DRC is a policy research and consulting institution under the State Council —the Central Government of the People's Republic of China.

Its major function is to conduct prospective research on issues in economic and social development, policy making, and long-term strategies on infrastructure development in China.

The DRC is a member of the Silk Road Think Tank Network (SiLKS), which comprises entities from 54 countries and holds annual meetings within the framework of the 'Belt and Road' initiative —also known as One Belt, One Road (OBOR)— proposed by President Xi Jinping.

As is known, Peru and China maintain a high-level comprehensive strategic partnership.

Within this framework, Li Wei was received by Peru's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Hugo Claudio de Zela Martinez, at Torre Tagle Palace.

At the meeting, government officials exchanged ideas on Peru-China ties and the opportunities the OBOR initiative presents for both nations.

This visit established the first contact between representatives of the DRC and different Peruvian sectors in order to identify Peruvian Government's priority areas for the completion of projects with Chinese cooperation and investment.

Likewise, the DRC and representatives of Peruvian research centers —on China and the Asia-Pacific region— reaffirmed their interest in forging deeper ties to create development-conducive policies for the Inca nation.
