The Government of Peru has appointed Ambassador Hugo Claudio de Zela Martinez as the new Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister.
The appointment was made official by Supreme Resolution published on Thursday in El Peruano official gazette.
According to the document, De Zela is in charge of formulating, coordinating, executing and supervising the State's foreign policy on behalf of the
Foreign Affairs Ministry, as well as fulfilling his role as head of the diplomatic service.
In addition to his extensive experience in the diplomatic service, De Zela served as Chief of Staff of the Organization of American States (
OAS) Secretary-General between 2011 and 2015.
During that period, he was senior political adviser of the then OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza.
The aforementioned resolution bears the signatures of President Martin Vizcarra and Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio.
