Investment bank Credit Suisse on Tuesday affirmed that the appointment of Francisco Sagasti as Congress chairman and next President of the Republic bodes well for Peru.

"We think that Mr. Sagasti's track record as a centrist technocrat, and the strong support by Congress, bodes well for appeasing the political crisis and the social discontent," it said in its daily report.

"Mr. Sagasti is a member of the Morado Party (Purple Party) a centrist political organization, which remarkably voted against the removal of Mr. Martin Vizcarra from the presidency," it added.

Academic profile and experience

The report details that Mr. Sagasti holds a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the National Engineering University (UNI) in Lima.

He received a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, as well as a PhD in Operational Research and Social Systems Sciences from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, in the United States.
