Peru: Refurbished Pan Am Village set to open doors to COVID-19 patients

The Pan American and Para Pan American Games Special Legacy Project as well as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in coordination with the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Environment, are responsible for the implementation of dedicated areas for coronavirus (COVID-19) patients at the Pan American Village.

Located in the heart of Lima's peripheral Villa El Salvador district and considered an infrastructure legacy of Lima 2019, the village will start operations today, March 30, in order to admit patients affected by COVID-19.
Works at two of the towers have been completed in a few days, since the Government decided to refurbish the venue.
All refurbishment works were carried out to grant the facilities and conditions needed to host these patients —as stipulated by the Government— thanks to the support of the Armed Forces and the Lima 2019 Special Legacy Project personnel.
12 trucks transported 100 tons of material into the Village, making a total of 56 trips.
It must be noted the Pan American Village was designed to house around 10,000 athletes during the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Beds
900 beds have been set up in two towers as part of the first stage of refurbishment.
Moreover, President Martin Vizcarra announced that up to 3,000 beds could be placed in the seven towers, if necessary.
