The Lima 2019 Games Special Legacy Project on Thursday initiated the refurbishment of an entire tower —including 456 bedrooms within 156 apartments—
to turn the Pan American Village, located in Lima's peripheral Villa El Salvador district, into a hospital to isolate new coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in Peru.
The Special Legacy Project issued a statement with details of the works for the transformation of said Village into a hospital to treat
COVID-19 patients, as previously announced by the Government.
"In view of the need to face the coronavirus pandemic, the Pan American and Parapan American Village —which housed athletes and Para athletes from 41 countries of the Americas during Lima 2019— is made available to health sector authorities for its use to treat COVID-19 patients," the letter reads.
The refurbishment of an entire tower —including 456 bedrooms within 156 apartments— starts Thursday, March 19.
The relocation and placement of beds, mattresses, sheets and nightstands will be carried out with the support of the Armed Forces. The trucks will be moving starting Friday, March 20.
The Village is the first fully accessible housing complex in Peru with wide corridors, large elevators, touch-sensitive floors, and braille signage. In addition, its apartments are designed for people with disabilities.
The letter states that the Peruvian State will fulfill its commitment to recognize their effort and dedication after overcoming the current health emergency.
