The event was led by Vice-President Mercedes Araoz.
On her part,
International Potato Center (CIP) Director General Barbara Wells explained the efforts undertaken in order to be able to participate in this international fair.
Peruvian Pavilion
Within this framework, CIP set up a Peruvian Pavilion representing the Cusco region-based Moray Terraces which are believed to have served as the world's first agricultural research center.
Furthermore, PromPeru offered specialty coffee tasting sessions under the
Coffees from Peru brand.
Potatoes had an especial place during the event, as the collaboration between Peruvian and Chinese scientists —along with CIP— enabled the development of over 150 new potato varieties in the Asian nation.
Chinese authorities such as
Expo Beijing 2019 Commissioner General Chen Zhou, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences President Tang Huajun also attended.
