Potatoes, sacha inchi, maca, blueberries, chestnuts, and Andean grains —among other Superfoods— were the protagonists of CIP and Peru Honor Day of Expo 2019 Beijing —which took place on September 1 in the Asian Giant, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed Monday.

The event was led by Vice-President Mercedes Araoz.

On her part, International Potato Center (CIP) Director General Barbara Wells explained the efforts undertaken in order to be able to participate in this international fair.

Within this framework, CIP set up a Peruvian Pavilion representing the Cusco region-based Moray Terraces which are believed to have served as the world's first agricultural research center.

Furthermore, PromPeru offered specialty coffee tasting sessions under the Coffees from Peru brand.

Potatoes had an especial place during the event, as the collaboration between Peruvian and Chinese scientists —along with CIP— enabled the development of over 150 new potato varieties in the Asian nation.

Chinese authorities such as Expo Beijing 2019 Commissioner General Chen Zhou, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences President Tang Huajun also attended.

On the other hand, within the framework of the Superfoods Peru promotion plan in Asia, the Inca nation will be present —as a guest country— at 2019 Asia Fruit Logistica fair —to be held in Hong Kong on September 4-6— as well as at China International Import Expo Exhibition to take place in Shanghai on November 5-10.
