This year's Feast of Santa María Magdalena (St. Mary Magdalene) was launched at a festive ceremony on the esplanade of the Government Palace in Lima on Saturday.

The traditional event will take place from July 24-August 2 in the Lima province of Cajatambo.

The ten-day festival was launched in the capital Lima as part of the "Palace for Everybody" program, which aims to introduce Peruvians to various cultural events from around the country.

Attending the ceremony, Congressman Wilder Ruiz Loayza said this is a great opportunity to show Peru and the world the cultural wealth of Cajatambo province and its five districts.

He added that Cajatambo, located 182 km north of Lima at about 5000 meters above sea level, has various tourist attractions including "dances, food, hot springs, culture and history."
