Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela received his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, on an official visit at the Torre Tagle Palace in Lima on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Peruvian career diplomat underscored that relations with Brazil are central and a priority, adding that Peru seeks to strengthen and expand them.

Minister De Zela noted that his counterpart's visit comes one year ahead of the bicentennial marking the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be commemorated on February 3, 2027.

The occasion provides an opportunity to strengthen political dialogue, cooperation, and cross-border integration, and to begin updating the Strategic Partnership agreed in 2003 to address new international challenges.

Both ministers reaffirmed their interest in promoting physical integration between the Pacific and the Atlantic, highlighting the Chancay Port's strategic potential.

Likewise, the dignitaries stressed the importance of advancing a bioceanic connection to boost bilateral trade and generate tangible benefits for both countries' development.

In the economic sphere, they reaffirmed their interest in expanding and dynamizing trade, fostering greater cross-border integration and trade facilitation measures.

On security matters, the ministers agreed to deepen cooperation to confront transnational organized crime and to begin coordination to establish a "2+2" public security mechanism.

This mechanism will strengthen joint work involving the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Justice, as well as boost greater cooperation between both countries' police and armed forces.

Lastly, Minister Vieira extended an invitation to his counterpart to visit Brazil in the short term, with the aim of giving continuity to the agreements reached and opening new avenues for cooperation.
