The Peruvian Navy's BAP Union sailing training ship obtained the "Boston Teapot Trophy" —awarded by the British organization "Sail Training International"— for having traveled 1,261 nautical miles during 124 uninterrupted hours at an average speed of 10.71 knots.

The navigation took place from July 5 to 11, 2023, during its journey from Peru's Callao Naval Base to Tahiti (French Polynesia) —when it began its historic circumnavigation voyage.

The trophy was presented on February 1 aboard the naval unit, docked at the Spanish port of Cadiz, where it arrived on its 16th stopover point on the itinerary.

It should be noted that the trophy was received by Navy Commander General, Admiral Luis Polar Figari, who is on an official visit fulfilling a busy work agenda with his counterpart from Spain —a country with which Peru maintains solid friendship and cooperation ties in the field of naval defense.

This award was presented by the aforementioned nautical institution's chairman, Jonathan Cheshire, who highlighted that in the almost 60 years of competition it is the first time that Peru has obtained the trophy, thus joining this prestigious list of very competitive and large sailboats emblematic of different countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Present at the awarding ceremony were the Pacific Operations Commander General, Vice Admiral Javier Bravo de Rueda Delgado; BAP Union Commander, Captain Jose Luis Arce Corzo; among other guests.

Obtaining this award represents for the BAP Union years of constant training and preparation of the vessel to learn about its performance, efficiency points, and maximum performance with its sailing ship.

Similarly, the expertise and seamanship of its crew and Peruvian sailors stand out.
