With great joy, the Peruvian community and inhabitants of Tahiti welcomed the
, which arrived on July 13 at the first destination of a voyage that will take it around the globe —within the framework of the 2023-2024 Training Journey Overseas by Peruvian Naval School cadets.
Upon arrival in the city, ship commander, Navy Captain Jose Luis Arce Corzo, received on board the Armed Forces commander and the high commissioner in French Polynesia, as well as local military and civil authorities.
Later, he held a press conference.
On behalf of Peru, a section of cadets will participate in the military parade to be held on the occasion of France's National Day celebrations on July 14.
BAP Union to open its doors
Among the cultural activities to be performed by Peru's crew in that city, its members will visit the
Museum of Tahiti and tour the
jurisdictional islands on July 15.
Until July 16, the impressive ship will open its doors to receive visits from locals, as well as from the Peruvian community residing in said Oceanian country.
It must be noted that the voyage's main objective is to complement the seafaring training of naval cadets.
Similarly, the vessel will become an itinerant embassy, disseminating the ancient Peruvian culture across the countries it will visit.
It will also serve to position the Marca Peru (Peru Brand) with the aim of promoting inbound tourism and exportable supply.
The unique circumnavigation constitutes a historic milestone for Peru and its Navy, as this is the first time that the BAP Union has started a journey of great magnitude.
It will complete a voyage of 34,216 nautical miles in approximately 309 days, during which it will visit 20 ports in 16 countries on five continents.
