The Government has appointed the official who will head Peru's Permanent Representation to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), before the Conference of States Parties and the Executive Council of said entity.

Her appointment is the subject of Supreme Resolution No. 222-2024-RE, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Thursday.

In this regard, said regulation provides for the issuance of the corresponding credentials and full powers.

Previous appointments

She currently serves as Ambassador to the Netherlands —a duty hat he has fulfilled since November 1. Her appointment as such was officialized through Supreme Resolution No. 152-2024-RE, dated September 12, 2024.

This appointment to the OPCW is framed within the provisions of the Constitution's Article 118 Numeral 12, which establishes the presidential power to appoint ambassadors and ministers plenipotentiary with the approval of the Council of Ministers, with the responsibility of reporting to Congress.

It is also in accordance with Law No. 27594, which regulates the participation of the Executive Branch in the appointment and designation of public officials, the Consolidated Text of the Law of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic, and its regulations.
