Within the framework of the
Afro-Peruvian Culture Day, Culture Minister Ulla Holmquist Pachas awarded the Meritorious Personality of Culture distinction to three important Afro-Peruvian leaders for their work in the promotion and development of their people.
The recipients include Luisa Astudillo Gonzalez, Santiago Manzo Audante, and Celia Grados Santibañez.
Luisa Astudillo was honored for her significant contribution to Afro-Peruvian rhythms and dances in La Libertad region when pointing out the value of the Afro-Peruvian intangible cultural heritage.
He was awarded for his contribution to preserving and highlighting the importance of the Afro-Peruvian intangible cultural heritage, maintaining the district's customs and traditions alive.
Finally, Celia Grados contributed to promoting and enhancing the visibility of Afro-Peruvian culture at school. As a teacher, she has helped create specific teaching materials to promote intercultural citizenship of children and adolescents.
"As Government, we reaffirm our commitment to hard work so the country can achieve gender equality for all —recognizing its history and culture— by the (Independence) Bicentennial celebrations," the minister noted.
"I'd like to underscore the contribution of these people and call on attendees to commit to the construction of an intercultural citizenship that recognizes our diversity as an asset for development," she added.
