497,250 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses land in Peru

A new batch of 497,250 vaccines from Pfizer pharmaceutical company arrived at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport on Thursday evening, Justice and Human Rights Minister Eduardo Vega has reported.

The cargo was brought from Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on a flight operated by KLM.

The government official remarked that this new batch will be added to the more than 9.1 million vaccines that Peru has received over the past weeks.

Thus, within the framework of the agreement reached with Pfizer pharmaceutical company, another batch of 497,250 doses arrived on June 17.

In addition, he reported that a batch of one million Sinopharm vaccines is expected to arrive next week, which would bring the total number of vaccine doses sent from said laboratory to 3 million.

Moreover, the negotiations to get 3 million doses in July and another 2 million in August are being completed.

"We expect to increase the vaccination rate in the coming weeks. These shipments reaffirm the commitment of vaccinating as many people as possible, made by the Government led by President Sagasti," he expressed.

Additionally, he confirmed that

the vaccination of the 50-plus age group will begin on June 25, starting with those aged 58 and 59.

"The Government continues to fulfill its commitment. We have signed agreements for more than 62 million vaccines with Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, and under the COVAX Facility mechanism, too," the minister concluded.
