Peru Govt signs agreement to get one million Sinopharm vaccine doses

12:45 | Lima, Jun. 21.

The Government has signed an agreement with Chinese laboratory Sinopharm to get an additional one million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte announced on Monday.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Ugarte pointed out that this new batch of vaccines will arrive next week.

"This agreement will help increase the number of vaccines received by Peru to 68 million doses, so that the next administration has enough vaccines to carry out the immunization program," the minister stated.

On the other hand, the government official explained that the promulgation of the rule allowing private sector companies to import vaccines against COVID-19 will have no practical effect given that international laboratories do not sell their vaccines to private companies, due to the fact that —in the event of any risk— the responsibility is assumed by states.

In addition, he reiterated his call for the population to receive the two doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 because this is the only way to be really protected.
