President Jose Jeri on Thursday stated that the Chancay Port Joint Control Unit represents the country's firm commitment to port security, international trade integrity, and the frontal fight against transnational organized crime.

The Head of State said maritime routes are now being used more frequently for trafficking of illicit drugs and other clandestine goods.

"Therefore, this control unit is an essential, strategic tool to prevent, detect, and intercept illicit cargo attempting to enter our country," he stated.

The control unit, which was launched today, will also allow operations from a port that stands as one of the region's main logistics hubs, with growing container traffic that poses security challenges.

The President specified that this infrastructure adds to the existing Joint Control Units at the Ports of Callao, Paita, and Matarani, demonstrating coordinated efforts to strengthen security at Peruvian ports.

In this context, the top official expressed his gratitude to the institutions that made this unit possible, especially the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Likewise, he highlighted the support of partner countries in the implementation and training of this unit's personnel, as well as the cooperation of Cosco Shipping, the port terminal's operator.

"We are working to prevent maritime routes from being used for illicit activities that threaten the security not only of our country, but also of the region and the entire world," Jeri asserted.

The Head of State noted that the scale of the challenge requires international cooperation, inter-institutional coordination, private-sector participation, cutting-edge technology, and the continuous commitment of authorities.

President Jeri arrived in Chancay, where he carried out a work agenda that included raising the flag at the Main Square, visiting the local police station, and inspecting the area's Artisanal Fishing Dock (DPA).
