Peruvian Ambassador presents credential letters to U.S. President Biden

Peruvian diplomat Oswaldo de Rivero has presented to U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. the letters that accredit him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Peru to the United States of America.

During his presentation, the diplomat conveyed to the U.S. Head of State the interest of President Pedro Castillo in consolidating the

bilateral agenda based on shared principles and values such as: democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and free trade.

Similarly, the Ambassador reaffirmed the objectives of the Peruvian Government such as: the fight against poverty and social inequality; improvement of health and education; and promotion of economic development under an environmental sustainability approach.

The representative of Peru emphasized that these priorities will guide his administration as Ambassador to the U.S., with special emphasis on bilateral cooperation and environmental issues, economic promotion, as well as promotion of political and diplomatic dialogue at the highest level between both Governments.

President Biden underlined in his response the solid friendship uniting the two nations based on shared commitments, as well as in favor of economic prosperity, citizen security, and democratic governance.

He also highlighted the South American country's commitment to holding free and fair elections, deemed as "the cornerstone of all democracies," while stating that Peru has a reliable partner in the United States —a country that during the COVID-19 pandemic has provided significant support to Peruvian efforts, in terms of cooperation in the field of health and Pfizer vaccine doses.

President Biden also expressed to the Peruvian Government and to the Ambassador his special wish to work together in order to promote the common agenda, as well as develop close economic, political, and cultural ties between both countries.

The Governments of Peru and the United States this year commemorate the 195th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

At present, they share an unprecedented agenda in which priority issues converge, such as the construction of an effective democracy which leads to more prosperous and fair societies, economic development promotion, defense of democratic institutions, fight against climate change, and environment protection.

Last October, the Peruvian Government designated Oswaldo de Rivero to serve as Ambassador to the United States.
