Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola underscored that the relationship between Peru and the United States is based on common values and principles such as the promotion of both democracy and the rule of law, as well as full respect and defense of human rights.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief stressed that Peru is a country open to foreign investment, and emphasized that it relies on an investor-friendly legal framework.

"Peru offers multiple investment opportunities, and from the Government, we are focused on promoting initiatives linked to sustainable infrastructure, which contribute to closing gaps and addressing citizens' needs," he indicated.

The Peruvian Government's spokesman also spoke with the
Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jose W. Fernandez.

In this sense, Minister Gervasi stressed that initiatives such as the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) will be key to promoting U.S. investments in Peru.

It should be noted that, concerning the APEP, Juan Gonzalez extended the cordial invitation by U.S. President Biden to Peruvian Head of State, Dina Boluarte, so that she participates in this important initiative in favor of greater economic-trade relationship between the North American country and Latin America, where Peru plays an important role.

Fight against drug trafficking

At the meetings, Prime Minister Otarola reaffirmed Peru's solid commitment, joined by the United States, to confront illicit drug trafficking by criminal organizations.

"This (drug trafficking) is a threat against the security and democratic stability of our country and the continent," he stated.

In this regard, he highlighted the bilateral Peru-U.S. cooperation that led to the Non-Lethal Aerial Interception Agreement signed in Lima on August 24, which will strengthen the Peruvian Air Force's operational capacity and —on the other hand— discourage the use of civil aircraft for actions linked to illegal drug trafficking.

It was also highlighted that both countries are working closely to carry out the transfer of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum Presidency from the U.S. to Peru.

Within this framework, the Cabinet chief conveyed the invitation by the Peruvian Government for President Biden to participate in APEC 2024, which will take place in Lima next year.
