signed the agreement that establishes the legal framework to cooperate in the non-lethal aerial interception of aircraft linked to illicit drug trafficking across the national territory.
The instrument establishes the terms under which Peru will receive logistical support and operational assistance from the U.S. Government for intervention on aircraft involved in narcotrafficking activities.
Minister Gervasi highlighted the importance of this agreement that will strengthen the actions carried out by the Air Force in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
The scope of application of this instrument refers to the zones in which there is a higher incidence of production and transportation of illicit drugs by air, such as the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro Rivers (Vraem).
The prompt entry into force of this agreement, following domestic legal procedures, constitutes a turning point in the fight against narcotrafficking, making it possible to strengthen security in Peru and the Andean region.
The ceremony was held at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
