Peru's PM calls for unity to move forward amid adversity

16:02 | Lima, Aug. 3.

"Today, like never before, we must work as a team to move forward in the face of adversity," Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano affirmed on Monday as he and his Cabinet requested the confidence vote of legislators.

Within this framework, the Cabinet chief affirmed that the government plan presented before Congress "is realistic, urgent and responds to the needs of current times" in the country.

"The team that I have the honor to lead is committed to its implementation in all its aspects, but it is clear that the success of its execution depends on the commitment of all Peruvians," he said.

The high-ranking official affirmed that the worst-case scenario for the country right now is a confrontation between the branches of government and a situation of ungovernability, which nobody wants.

"Today, like never before, we must work as a team to move forward in the face of adversity. The fight will require a lot of work, patience and sacrifice. But the reward will be great, because we will help overcome the pandemic and build the country we dream of," he pointed out.

In this sense, Cateriano assured that —on July 28 next year, the Independence Bicentennial date— during the transition of power from the current administration to the next one, he will feel satisfied that he fulfilled the mandate he was given.
