has assumed the electoral body's interim leadership.
In a statement, the agency said the decision was made in compliance with ONPE's Organic Law.
"In accordance with Article 15 of ONPE's Organic Law, if the position of chief becomes vacant during an electoral process, the interim chief shall be the official of the next lower rank, who in this case is the current General Manager, Bernardo Juan Pachas Serrano," the institution stated.
It added that ONPE had been notified that the National Justice Board's (JNJ) Plenary unanimously approved the resignation submitted by Corvetto Salinas from the national leadership post.
This agreement was made official through Resolution No. 119-2026, which declares the ONPE chief position vacant.
The agency also informed citizens that the duties related to the ongoing electoral process have not been interrupted and will not be interrupted, including the processing and counting of electoral records, as well as preparations for a second presidential election.
"Simultaneously, ONPE is moving forward with the organization of the primary elections ahead of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections, scheduled for May 17 and 24," the statement concluded.
