The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, has ended the appointment of Carlos Diaz Daniño as State minister in the Defense sector, a position he had held since March 17, 2026.

In a letter addressed to Diaz Daniño, it was stated that, in accordance with Article 122 of Peru's Constitution, the President of the Republic has the authority to appoint and remove Cabinet members.

"In exercise of that authority, it is necessary to end the appointment of Mr. Carlos Alberto Francisco Diaz Daniño as State minister in the Defense portfolio, made through Supreme Resolution No. 98-2026-PCM," the document stated.

Carlos Diaz Daniño on Wednesday submitted his irrevocable resignation as State minister in the Defense sector, a position he had held since March 17, 2026.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Republic, Diaz Dañino said that during his tenure he endeavored to act with the utmost commitment and dedication, directing his efforts toward strengthening national security, protecting the country's strategic interests, and fulfilling his duties.

However, he expressed his disagreements regarding the procurement process for fighter aircraft for the Peruvian Air Force.

"However, a strategic decision on national security matters has been adopted on this date, with which I maintain a substantive disagreement, particularly because of its implications regarding the procurement process aimed at acquiring fighter aircraft for national defense, as I consider that it could compromise the country's interests and generate consequences of significant relevance," he indicated.
