Peru President against restricting State advertising

12:35 | Chiclayo (Lambayeque region), Jun. 13.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday said that State's ability to provide information rationally should not be limited.

Therefore, he expressed disagreement with a new bill that attempts to regulate State advertising in private media.

"We disagree with this bill. The State must rely on tools to inform the population of everything it needs to achieve its goals," the Head of State pointed out.

For instance, he said one of the Government's priorities is to overcome anemia and chronic malnutrition in children. To that end, efforts are being made to ensure the availability of vitamin supplements.

Nevertheless, the statesman finds it necessary to inform people about these actions in order to engage them.

"The Government's work requires the population's commitment, but how can we reach people without the media?" he said.

Just as Coastal El Niño phenomenon struck the country last year, a state of emergency has been declared in 11 regions due to frost and snowfall. Hence the Government's need for an information and communication system.

In this sense, Vizcarra restated his disagreement with the attempt to restrict State's ability to provide information rationally, without excess and making careful use of public resources.
