Peru prepares film to promote Cusco attractions at 2018 World Cup

13:01 | Cusco (Cusco region), May. 8.

Cusco and the rest of Peru's vast tangible and intangible culture will be disseminated through a film screened at the emblematic Red Square of Moscow in Russia —the host country of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

According to Miguel Angel Paz Loaiza, head of Municipal Company of Festivities in Cusco (Emufec), Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) is preparing the film and a few scenes will be shown tonight during the announcement of Cusco's festivities at Huaca Pucllana in Lima's Miraflores district.

The short will feature the Inca country's cultural, archaeological, and landscape heritage, such as the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and the Inti Raymi —an Inca ritual performance at Sacsayhuaman fortress marking Cusco's jubilee month celebrations.

"The 8-to-10-minute material will encourage people from around the world to visit Peru and Cusco. The idea is to attract as many people as possible, and promote not only Machu Picchu but different (tourist) spots," he stated.

The PromPeru team will be based in Moscow and is expected to arrive in June, a few days before the start of the most popular international soccer event.

It must be noted the ancient city of Cusco will follow the national soccer squad's progress throughout the tournament while celebrating the metropolis' anniversary.

Cusco Festivities' details will be disclosed tonight at 7:00 PM (local time) in the presence of different authorities at Huaca Pucllana archaeological site.
