Peru's Justice Minister Salvador Heresi on Friday affirmed that President Martin Vizcarra's support to Paolo Guerrero —in order to overturn a doping ban— does not imply government interference in the process.
"There is no inference in the process since this issue directly concerns the player,
CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) and
FIFA. Besides, FIFA has international rules prohibiting government interference,"
Heresi told RPP radio and TV station.
The Justice's head underlined that fans want to see Paolo Guerrero playing at the World Cup, but explained support will be provided only in the diplomatic or external consultancy arena, meaning without direct involvement in the respective process.
Guerrero case
In order to
seek acquittal, the 34-year-old player's defense appealed the decision last January.
Last Monday, CAS decided to increase Guerrero's suspension from 6 to 14 months, thus leaving him out of the sporting mega-event.
