Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said a noticeable change will be taking place next year and expects GDP to grow 4.5% if all Government measures are implemented to rebound the economy.
The Council of Ministers is completing legislative measures under the powers granted by Congress. These actions will serve as a basis for better economic performance and greater security.
He told RPP radio station that insecurity is a daily concern, in response to which the Interior Ministry and National Police are doing a great job, which is expected to be more accurate once measures are taken.
Kuczynski also assessed his government’s performance during the first half in office, and said it took time to fix problems inherited from the Humala administration, when the economy grew at a rate lower than expected.
“A major change will be observed in 2017, but we’ll have to give further impetus to construction and infrastructure; as is known, construction fell sharply in the past two years,” he stated.
The 78-year-old assured the economy will end the year at a growth rate of 4% or slightly higher.
“I believe that if we implement all the measures, our GDP will grow more than 4.5%, maybe 5%; of course I’d like to achieve a higher growth rate. To that end, the country needs to be in order, crime and protests have to be reduced and more dialogue should be opened up,” he pointed out.
Furthermore, he continued, a more consequent and cleaner judicial system is required, we also need to use our extensive resources to fight corruption, as in the Lava Jato case.
In November, the Executive was given special powers by Congress to rule by decree for 90 days on economy and formalization, public safety, fight against corruption, water and sanitation, as well as Petroperu restructuring.
