U.S. President Barack Obama has planned to pay a visit to Peru in November 2016 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leader’s Meeting, Peruvian Ambassador appointed to the U.S. Luis Miguel Castilla affirmed.
Although the formal announcement by the White House and the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry are yet to be issued, Mr. Castilla confirmed Mr. Obama himself had “unofficially” announced “his intention to visit Peru before his term comes to an end,” Notimex agency reported.
In this sense, Mr. Obama has expressed his desire to travel “with his family.”
In the meeting with journalists, the Peruvian Ambassador indicated U.S. First Lady was interested in traveling to the country in 2013. Nonetheless, the trip had to be cancelled due to the U.S. Government shutdown.
“They both have told me […] the President, as well as the First Lady, that they would like to combine the official visit with a private visit to Peru before his term in office concludes,” Mr. Castilla affirmed.
Peru's President Ollanta Humala and his U.S. counterpart have met four times since 2011.
