The Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry introduced the 2025 National Strategic Exports Plan (PENX) to representatives of entrepreneurial associations, SMEs, producers associations, regional and municipal authorities in the Arequipa region.
"This is the first region we visit, in order to socialize the PENX updating process. In the following days, we will continue travelling to other regions," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Edgar Vasquez.
During his presentation, he highlighted Arequipa as "one of the regions that progressed the most."
The planned actions included in its Regional Strategic Exports Plan (PERX) reached a 100% implementation rate. It was created in 2004 in the framework of the first PENX 2003-2013.
"During this decade, Arequipa's non-traditional exports grew by 18% annually. Now we want to add to its exportable supply the exports of software, consulting in electronics and engineering and franchises, as well," he told.
Among the main objectives of PENX 2025 are the diversification of exports and the internationalization of enterprises, especially the small and medium-sized enterprises.
"Today we have 6,000 SMEs exporting 50% more than what was registered in 2003, which proves the PENX 2003-2013 has worked well," he pointed out.
"The structure of these plans and those of the Sectorial Plans of Operation will be designed jointly with the public and private sectors of each region," he told.
In addition, Vasquez indicated PENX2025 will enable Peru's non-traditional exports to continue growing, since those are “the ones” guaranteeing a highest added-value for Peruvian products.
The goal set for 2025 is reaching US$25 billion, a higher amount, even more than the double of the current one: US$11.6 billion.
At the end of his presentation, Vasquez received the comments and expectations of the entrepreneurial sector's representatives about the implementation of PENX in this region.
Moreover, he requested them to submit their proposals and suggestions until 21 March, in order to include those in the final elaboration of this document.
